Fatima Monaser-Henry, Parker’s Director of Dining, received a prestigious “Rising Star” award on Thursday, February 3, 2011, as hundreds, including her family and colleagues, came to Citifield to honor young but accomplished stars in health care, business, banking and politics. Asked what her secret to success was, Fatima remarked that “high levels of communication, organization and teamwork” were critically important. Click the images to see a larger version.
As Chinese throughout the world celebrated the Year of the Golden Rabbit on Thursday, February 3, the participants of Parker’s Chinese Adult Day Health Care program enjoyed a fun-filled day of special entertainment, song, dancing and special foods. Among those who helped participants celebrate were Assembly members Grace Meng and Ed Braunstein, whose communities are well represented in the program.
Volunteers of the Parker League prepared and distributed fruit baskets to the residents of Parker on Thursday, January 20th, in recognition of Tu B'Shevat. The Parker League welcomes new members to assist in fundraising, education, social activities and advocacy. Those interested in joining are invited to call 718-289-2292.
At the second annual tribute to "Parker's Platinum Professionals," held on December 6th, 2010, Parker's Associate Board of Trustees honored an extraordinary group of individuals, for their leadership, charitable, civic and community involvement.
The residents and patients of Parker marked National Breast Cancer Awareness month by holding wheelchair races on an improvised indoor track, as part of what they called "Wheel for A Cure." Their goals were to help fund research and raise public awareness. At the end of the day, they raised more than $500, and in the following week, they were cited in 20 community and daily newspapers for their exemplary efforts.
CCITI NY Electronic Transfer: On Monday, November 8, 2010, the Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation and Long Island Jewish Medical Center implemented the first electronic medical transfer using the CCITI NY (Continuum of Care Improvement Through Information - New York) Electronic Transfer Form System - a highly significant step for improving patient care and reducing unnecessary medical costs associated with the transfer of patients across the continuum of care.
When resident Lillian Burnstone celebrated her 108th birthday on November 3rd, she lighted the day with the glow of someone who thoroughly enjoyed her magnificent life adventure. Lillian gleefully shared birthday cake, amid decorations and entertainment, at a fun-filled party she enjoyed with family, friends and other residents, and she kept up her reputation as a "fashion plate." Ms. Burnstone passed away on November 17th. She will be missed, and warmly remembered as an example of the best in human spirit.
Residents and their families enjoyed a night of classic Americana when the North Shore Pops Concert Band, led by conductor Eric R. Albinder, performed in Parker's auditorium. The audience swayed to the beautiful music of George Gershwin, the snappy tunes of Cole Porter, the elegant jazz of Duke Ellington, and a variety of Broadway's best music.
