Students Visit Parker to Learn About Aging and Rehabilitation

Students from the Floral Park-Bellerose School District recently visited Parker to learn about aging and rehabilitative therapy, and observe demonstrations from Parker's Physical and Occupational Therapists, as part of their research into age-related issues of senior citizens.
The students, members of the FIRST Lego League Robotics team, observed first-hand how Parker's team helps seniors restore and maintain their quality of life - solving issues like getting around, keeping in touch, and staying fit.
They will take what they learned at Parker to the upcoming FIRST International Robotics Competition, which challenges students to think about ways to improve the quality of life of seniors by helping them continue to be independent, engaged, and connected in their communities. Over 200,000 children ages 9 to 16 from over 60 countries are expected to participate in the competition, which culminates in a real-world application of their research in the building and programming of an autonomous robot, using Lego robots, to negotiate obstacles common to seniors. Parker is proud to have been able to contribute to the students' efforts.
